How many porta potties do I need for my event?
A 150-guest, 5-hour event needs 4 standard porta potties before any alcohol adjustment. The planning rule is guests × hours ÷ 200, rounded up to the next whole unit. The rule lines up with common industry charts of about 1 unit per 50 guests for a 4-hour event. Count kids and staff as guests.
| Guests | 3 hours | 4 hours | 5 hours | 6 hours | 8 hours |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 2 | 2 |
| 75 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 3 | 3 |
| 100 | 2 | 2 | 3 | 3 | 4 |
| 150 | 3 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 |
| 200 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 8 |
| 300 | 5 | 6 | 8 | 9 | 12 |
| 500 | 8 | 10 | 13 | 15 | 20 |
Events longer than 8 hours, or running more than one day, need the same count each day plus mid-event service. See our festival porta potty plans for multi-day setups.

Call now for same-day(843) 268-6920How many extra porta potties do I add when alcohol is served?
Add 1 porta potty for every 4 units on the chart when alcohol is served, with a minimum of 1 extra unit. That works out to about 20–25% more units. A 150-guest, 5-hour wedding with a bar goes from 4 units to 5 units. Beer-heavy events like oyster roasts fill units faster.
- Find the base count. 150 guests × 5 hours = 750. 750 ÷ 200 = 3.75, so round up to 4 standard units.
- Add for alcohol. 4 units ÷ 4 = 1. Add 1 unit, for 5 units total.
- Make one accessible. 5% of 5 units is 0.25, so round up to 1. One of the 5 units should be ADA-style.
- Add hand washing. Dinner is served, so add at least 2 hand wash stations near the food line.
How many hand wash stations and ADA units do I need?
Plan at least 1 hand wash station for every 4 toilets, and 1 for every 2–3 toilets when food is served. Make at least 1 unit ADA-style at any public event. The 2010 ADA Standards §213.2 say at least 5% of portable toilets in each cluster must be accessible, rounded up.
| Toilets | Hand wash, no food | Hand wash, food served | ADA-style units (5%, min. 1) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| 4 | 1 | 2 | 1 |
| 8 | 2 | 3–4 | 1 |
| 12 | 3 | 4–6 | 1 |
| 20 | 5 | 7–10 | 1 |
| 25 | 7 | 9–13 | 2 |
Read the accessibility rule yourself in the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design. Our wheelchair-accessible ADA-style unit has a ground-level floor and a 60-inch turning space. Confirm what your permit or venue requires with the permit office.
How many toilets does a construction crew need?
A construction crew of 20 or fewer workers needs at least 1 toilet under OSHA Table D-1. Crews of 20 to 199 need 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers. Crews of 200 or more need 1 seat and 1 urinal per 50 workers. Weekly service is included on every jobsite rental.
| Workers | OSHA minimum | Our advice |
|---|---|---|
| 1–10 | 1 | 1 unit, weekly service |
| 11–20 | 1 | 2 units or twice-weekly service on 40-hour weeks |
| 40 | 1 seat + 1 urinal (40 ÷ 40) | 1–2 units; a standard unit has a seat and a urinal |
| 60 | 2 seats + 2 urinals (60 ÷ 40, rounded up) | 2–3 units |
| 120 | 3 seats + 3 urinals | 3–4 units plus hand wash stations |
| 250 | 5 seats + 5 urinals (250 ÷ 50) | Talk with us about a service schedule |
The full rule, with mobile crews and handwashing, is in our OSHA jobsite toilet requirements guide.
How should weddings and festivals plan restroom counts?
A wedding with 120 guests for 5 hours and a bar needs 4 toilets, and a restroom trailer stall can stand in for a unit in that count. Festivals need separate counts for each cluster of units, with at least 1 ADA-style unit per cluster and mid-event service for each extra day.
Weddings
Guests dress up and stay for hours, so many couples pick a restroom trailer or VIP cabin. Keep one ADA-style unit for guests who can't use trailer steps. See wedding restroom options.
Festivals
Split the crowd by area. Each cluster of units gets its own count, its own accessible unit and hand wash stations near food vendors. Plan mid-event pump-outs for each extra day.
Church and family events
Long lunches and reunions run 6 hours or more. Use the 6-hour column on the chart, and add hand washing when food is served.
Tailgates and sports days
Peak use hits at halftime and between games. Round up one more unit if the schedule packs everyone into short breaks.

How does Lowcountry heat change how many porta potties I need?
Summer heat from June through September does not change the guest count math, but summer heat raises odor and fills tanks faster. At a long summer event, add 1 unit or plan mid-event service. Oyster roasts with beer need the alcohol adjustment, plus hand wash stations, because shucking leaves hands messy.

Questions customers ask
How many would you recommend for 350 people? I worry since it's a large crowd.
350 guests for 4 hours need 7 standard units under guests × hours ÷ 200. With alcohol, add 2 more for 9 units. Make at least 1 of the 9 ADA-style, and add hand wash stations when food is served.
Do kids count when I figure out how many porta potties I need?
Kids count as full guests in the planning rule. Kids use the units often and take longer. Count vendors, band members and staff too, since they use the same units all day.
How many porta potties for a 3-hour graduation party with 60 people?
60 guests × 3 hours ÷ 200 = 0.9, so 1 standard unit covers a 3-hour, 60-guest party. Add a second unit if beer is served. Add a hand wash station if guests eat with their hands.
Does the ADA unit count as one of my toilets?
An ADA-style unit counts toward the total like any other toilet. For a 5-unit event, order 4 standard units and 1 ADA-style unit. Everyone can use the ADA-style unit, though it should stay open for guests who need the space.
We have 12 roofers. Is one porta potty enough?
One porta potty meets the OSHA minimum for 12 workers, because 20 or fewer workers need 1 toilet. A standard unit is rated around 200 uses between services. A crew of 11–20 on 40-hour weeks may need a second unit or twice-weekly service.
How many do I need if the party runs Friday and Saturday?
A two-day party needs the chart count for each day's crowd and hours, not double the units. Plan a mid-event service between days so the tanks start fresh. Mid-event service is quoted with the order.
What if more people show up than I planned for?
Call by noon Monday–Saturday and an extra unit can often go out the same day in Beaufort County. Saturday-morning drops work too. A rush fee may apply on full-route days, and you hear the price first.
Can guests just use the house bathroom for a 40-person party?
One porta potty for a 40-guest, 4-hour party keeps the line out of the house. 40 × 4 ÷ 200 = 0.8, so 1 standard unit covers the crowd. Add a hand wash station if food is served outside.
How many hand wash stations does a food truck event need?
Plan 1 hand wash station for every 2–3 toilets when food trucks serve the crowd. Place stations between the trucks and the toilets so guests pass them. Each station has 2 foot-pump sinks.
