Portable toilet types differ on four points that settle most rentals: flushing, handwashing, wheelchair access, and water or power needs. Standard, deluxe, ADA-style and hand wash units are self-contained. Restroom trailers need an outlet and a hose. The table lists footprint and real limits for each portable toilet type we rent.
| Unit | Best for | Flushing | Handwashing | Accessibility | Water / power needs | Footprint / space | Limitations |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard porta potty | Jobsites, remodels, backyard parties, overflow at big events | No, sealed holding tank | Sanitizer dispenser | Not wheelchair-accessible | None | About 44" W × 48" D × 90" H; fits a 48" gate | No running water; about 200 uses between services |
| Deluxe flushing unit | Showers, graduations, small weddings, home parties | Foot-pump flush | Foot-pump sink | Not wheelchair-accessible | None; onboard fresh-water tank | Close to a standard unit; plan on a 48" gate | Flush water lasts about 50 flushes before a refill |
| ADA-style unit | Wheelchair users, walkers, a parent helping a child | No | Sanitizer dispenser | Ground-level floor, 60" turning space, grab bars | None | About 87" W × 87" D × 89" H; open truck access | No flush, no sink; too wide for backyard gates |
| Hand wash station | Food events, jobsites, pairing with standard units | Not a toilet | 2 foot-pump sinks, soap, towels | Not rated as accessible | None; onboard water | Smaller than a toilet unit | About 400 washes per fill |
| Restroom trailer (2- or 3-stall) | Weddings, galas, long receptions | Flush toilets | Sinks inside | Entry steps; add an ADA-style unit | 110V/20-amp outlet plus a hose or onboard water | Towed trailer; level ground and open truck access | No outlet or soft ground means no trailer |
| VIP restroom cabin | Wedding parties, upscale events, a private guest room | Flush toilet | Vanity sink and mirror | Not rated as accessible | Confirmed on the quote | Single room; may need a level pad | One guest at a time; quoted per event |
Which one do I need?
The right unit depends on who uses the restroom and what the site can supply. Crews and casual parties do fine with standard units. Guests in dress clothes expect a sink and a flush. Anyone using a wheelchair needs an ADA-style unit. Only sites with an outlet, a hose and firm ground can take a trailer.
- Building, remodeling or roofing: standard units, plus a hand wash station for crews handling paint, sealant or chemicals.
- Backyard birthday or cookout: one or two standard units and a hand wash station by the food table.
- Shower, graduation or small reception: a deluxe flushing unit, so guests get a flush and a sink.
- Any public event or a guest who uses a wheelchair or walker: at least one ADA-style unit per cluster.
- Wedding or gala with power and a hose nearby: a 2-stall or 3-stall restroom trailer.
- Upscale event with no outlet, or a wedding party that wants its own room: a VIP cabin.
Can I mix different units on one order?
Most orders mix two or three unit types, and one quote covers the whole mix. A typical event pairs standard units with one ADA-style unit and a hand wash station. A wedding might pair a restroom trailer with one ADA-style unit, since trailer steps block wheelchairs. Every unit drops on the same truck run when the site allows.
Count by guests and hours first, then decide which units carry upgrades. Our porta potty count guide walks through the math for parties, weddings and crews.
Which units fit my yard, gate or lot?
A standard porta potty is about 44 inches wide, so a 48-inch gate is the practical minimum. ADA-style units run about 87 inches square and need open truck access. Restroom trailers and VIP cabins also need open access and level ground. Every unit should sit within about 25 feet of where our service truck parks.
Lowcountry ground decides placement as much as gate width. Beach sand on the sea islands shifts under a unit, and pluff mud near the marsh can swallow a trailer jack. Our guide to placing units on sand and marsh ground covers what to look for before delivery day.
How is each unit serviced?
Jobsite and monthly rentals get a weekly service visit: pump-out, wash-down, disinfecting, fresh deodorizer and restocked paper and sanitizer. Deluxe units also get the fresh-water tank refilled. Hand wash stations get water, soap and towels topped off. Event units and trailers arrive sanitized and stocked, and multi-day events can add a mid-event service.
Twice-weekly service is available on busy sites. In July, Beaufort averages a high near 90°F, and a crowded summer site fills tanks faster than the same crew in January. Ask dispatch to adjust the service day if a crew grows.
Do event and jobsite rentals use different units?
Event and jobsite rentals draw from the same standard and ADA-style units, cleaned the same way at our yard. The difference is the schedule. Event units drop the day before and pick up Monday at no extra charge. Jobsite units stay on a 28-day cycle with weekly service until the crew finishes.
Deluxe units, trailers and VIP cabins mostly go to events, since crews rarely need a flush or a vanity. Hand wash stations work for both, and a standard unit with a hand wash station is a common jobsite pair.
Questions customers ask
What's the real difference between a standard and a deluxe porta potty?
A deluxe unit adds a foot-pump flush and a foot-pump sink with its own fresh-water tank. A standard unit has a seat over a holding tank, a urinal and hand sanitizer, with no water at all.
Which unit is the cheapest to rent?
The standard porta potty is the lowest-cost unit. An event weekend starts from about $225 in Beaufort County, and a jobsite unit runs about $200–$290 per 28-day cycle with weekly service, before tax.
Which units need a hookup to water or electricity?
Restroom trailers need a standard 110V/20-amp outlet nearby and a garden hose or onboard water. Standard, deluxe, ADA-style and hand wash units carry their own tanks and need no hookup at all.
Can I get a trailer and a few standard units for the same event?
One order can mix any of our units. Many weddings put a restroom trailer near the reception and a pair of standard units near parking or the band setup.
How early should I book a trailer compared with a regular porta potty?
Standard units can often go out same day when you call by noon, Monday through Saturday. Trailers and VIP cabins need a check of power, water and access, so call as soon as the event date is set.
Do you deliver any of these units on Sunday?
Trucks do not run on Sunday. For a Sunday event, units drop Friday or Saturday and get picked up Monday.
